A pleasant weather prevailed in Jammu as the mercury continued its upward trend after nosediving to season's lowest last week.
The minimum temperature recorded in Jammu rose by 0.3 notches to settle at 8.0 degrees Celsius - just one degree below normal during this part of the season, a spokesman of the Meteorological department said today.
However, he said the day temperature increased by almost four degrees yesterday to settle at 26.1 degrees Celsius which is five degrees above average.
In view of heavy snowfall in the high altitude areas and incessant rains in the plains, the city had recorded a high of 14.3 degrees Celsius on December 11, which was the season's lowest day temperature, while the night temperature had dropped to 5.1 degrees Celsius on December 16, making it the coldest night of the winter so far.
Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi Shrine, in Reasi district continued to be warmer than Jammu city with minimum temperature settling at 11.0 degrees Celsius against the previous night's 9.5 degrees Celsius, the spokesman said.
He said the snow-covered Banihal, the town along Jammu- Srinagar National Highway, also marked an increase in the night temperature, which settled at 1.7 degrees Celsius.
Last night, the town had recorded a minimum of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius.
