Mercury rises in Haryana, Punjab; rain likely Wednesday

Day temperatures rose slightly and hovered above normal levels in Haryana and Punjab on Tuesday.

Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded a maximum temperature of 36.6 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal, a Meteorological Department report said here.

Ambala in Haryana registered a high of 37.2 degrees, three notches above normal.

Hisar recorded a high of 37.9 degrees Celsius, while Karnal recorded a high of 35.

Bhiwani experienced hot weather with a high of 38.7 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 36, two notches above normal.

Ludhiana and Patiala registered their maximum at 35.2 and 36.1 degrees Celsius.

Light to moderate rain is likely at many places in the two states on Wednesday and at most places on Thursday and Friday, according to a weather department forecast.
