The mercury in Srinagar settled almost four notches above season's average on Monday, while early morning rainfall in Jammu brought some relief to the people, the MeT department said.

The meteorological (MeT) department's office here could not give weather updates of several areas in the state, apparently due to security restrictions which were imposed across Jammu and Kashmir since early Monday.

Though no reason was given for non-availability of data from 11 weather stations, it is likely the staff posted at these stations could not reach their offices due to the strict restrictions imposed across the state as a precautionary measure following abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution.

The maximum temperature in Srinagar was 33.1 degrees Celsius, a MeT spokesperson said.

He said the city recorded a minimum of 19.7 degrees Celsius, also one degree above normal.

Katra in Reasi district recorded a high of 31.5 degrees Celsius and a low of 21.1 degrees Celsius, the spokesperson said.

In Jammu, early morning rain provided much needed relief to the people from hot and humid conditions and the weather remained cloudy throughout the day, he said.

The MeT department has forecast rain or thundershowers over several parts of the state during the next 24 hours, and mostly dry weather in Ladakh region.
