Streep, 64, is in talks to play the chief elder, the authoritarian charged with keeping order in a society that seems utopian. They have eliminated pain and strife by converting to "Sameness" a plan that has also eradicated emotional depth from their lives.
Jonas, a 12-year-old, is selected to be the receiver of memories, who stores all the memories before the sameness.
