"Earth Hour is a peoples' movement symbolising a lifestyle that ensures clean and sustainable energy. An important global agenda, it is intrinsically connected to human well-being and environment protection," Mir said.
Scheduled for March 29 between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm, Earth Hour is an environmental campaign where citizens around the world show their support for action on climate change by turning off non-essential lights for one hour.
Earth Hour will kick off with 'Pedal for the Planet', a cyclothon scheduled to be held in New Delhi on March 22.
Ravi Singh, secretary general and CEO of WWF-India said, "Earth Hour is a movement that unifies people nationwide to express their concern over the global crisis of climate change".
The focus this year would be on the need to make the switch to renewable energy.
As a symbolic show of support to Earth Hour, the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Prime Minister's residence, residences of Chief Ministers and government buildings in every participating city have turned off lights every year.
