Mirwaiz expresses concern over ceasefire violations

Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today expressed concern over the escalation in ceasefire violations between India and Pakistan which resulted in casualties on either side of the Line of Control.
"These incidents shift focus from the actual issue of Kashmir and divert all attention to the ceasefire line and borders, besides causing distress to the people living in these areas," the Mirwaiz said in a statement here.
In an apparent reference to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the Hurriyat chairman said the Centre should give up the 'Doval doctrine' with regard to Pakistan as it is "very dangerous for the region and greatly increases the chances of a full-fledged war" between the two countries.

"(It) will benefit none...Aggressiveness and predominance as a state policy both with regard to the Kashmir problem and in dealing with neighbours can bear no fruit and is destructive for India itself in the long run," he said.
The Mirwaiz said resolution of disputes in a respectable and amicable manner based on principles of justice and humanity is the most assured way of ensuring peace and stability in the region.
"The resolution of Kashmir dispute once and for all is way of doing so," he said.
The Mirwaiz said sustained and unconditional dialogue among the three stakeholders of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the most affected party -- the people of Jammu and Kashmir -- should be initiated forthwith and an immediate stop should be put to hostilities between the two countries.
