Mizoram remains one of the most peaceful states in the country and the people of the state should re-dedicate themselves to the cause of peace, state Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla today said.
In his address to the people after unfurling the National Flag on the occasion of Independence Day, the Chief Minister asked the people of the state to live in peace so that the state could be an example for others to emulate.
The state, he said, was celebrating the 30th anniversary of the signing of the historic Mizo Accord this year.
The Chief minister said implementation of the New Land Use Policy (NLUP), the flagship programme of the present Congress government, had a strong and positive impact on the state's economy.
It contributed generously towards registering a high rate of growth which was highlighted in the Economic Survey, 2014-15, he said.
The Economic Survey reflected that area under 'jhum' cultivation (slash and burn way of shifting cultivation) area was reduced by over 21 per cent, he said.
"While the NLUP continues to be accorded priority, the state government has formulated the 'New Economic Development Policy (NEDP) - Comprehensive Growth Strategies for Mizoram' as a long term framework for economic policy and comprehensive growth strategy for the state economy," he said.
Rs 250 crore was allocated under the NEDP for the current fiscal, he said.
On the power sector, he said the 60 MW Turisl Hydro Electric Project was in the final stage of completion and was expected to be commissioned shortly.
