Modi govt 'finally accepts land ordinance was a mistake': AAP

AAP today charged that the BJP-led NDA government had "finally accepted its mistake" over the Land Bill issue after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Centre would not be further re-promulgating the Land Ordinance after it expires tomorrow.

The ruling party in Delhi further claimed that Modi's announcement also underlines its stand that the BJP-led regime was "anti-people and anti-farmer".

The Modi government, by giving up on its efforts to bring the "pro-corporate" land ordinance, has acknowledged that it was trying to "thrust the Bill" upon the people, alleged AAP.

"The role of BJP in Land Acquisition Bill is both interesting and worrying. First, while in the opposition, it teamed up with the UPA to pass the Bill in 2013 and, after coming to power, it further intended to tweak the Bill to benefit its corporate friends.

"After unsuccessfully trying thrice to thrust the Bill upon the people, it finally accepted today that it was a mistake," AAP said.

Meanwhile, Jai Kisan Andolan, an organisation founded by AAP rebels Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, congratulated farmers on the government's decision to let the land ordinance lapse.

"Facing stiff resistance and mass discontent from farmers from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, the Modi government beat a hasty retreat and caused the ordinance to be lapsed.

"Jai Kisan Andolan congratulates the farmers for an historic victory. The PM's announcement that the land acquisition amendment ordinance will not be re-promulgated represents a major victory for the farmers' struggle," it said.
