"Voter turnout, which was a dismal 48 per cent for the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, has improved and was around 55 per cent in the 36 Maharashtra Assembly constituencies in the island city and suburbs," an official said.
While polling percentage in Mumbai city was around 54 per cent, in suburban Mumbai, it was around 56 per cent.
Addressing a poll rally at Borivli in North Mumbai on October 12, a day before campaign for the Maharashtra Assembly polls ended, Modi had asked voters to go out in large numbers to vote.
"In the October 15 Assembly polls, you will get a chance to undo what happened in the Lok Sabha polls as far as polling percentage is concerned," he had said.
