Mosquito-breeding were found at 15 hospitals in the city during a recent routine inspection, Delhi Health Minister Satyender Jain today said, even as he maintained that the government is working on a strategy to tackle any outbreak of dengue during the monsoon season.
"We met MCD (municipal corporations), NDMC and Cantonment Board officials today to workout a strategy to deal with dengue...The issue is people are not aware that they need to examine clean water and places to check breeding of mosquitoes.
"Dengue and malaria mosquitoes breed in clean places...We have found them during a check at 15 hospitals. We will check all hospitals, government offices, factories etc, " he told reporters here.
Jain said that a campaign will also be run to make people aware on how to save themselves from dengue.
"The campaign will be run with school children...If we tell them where these mosquitoes breed and what are the symptoms, they will be able to raise awareness about it in their families as well," he said.
He also advised people to avoid dehydration and assured them that there is no need to panic.
Asked about whether these hospitals have been issued challans, Jain said, "checks are being conducted and wherever mosquitoes are found breeding, they will be given warnings and if the breeding still continues, they will be issued challans".
He, however, did not specify if these were all government hospitals or they also included private hospitals.
Responding to a query about desilting work of manholes being unfinished, the minister said, "We have ordered the PWD to wind up the work, I had last week reviewed MCD work...We will soon announce a centralised number where people can register their complaints".
Meanwhile, in a reshuffle, the Health and Family Welfare Department today ordered transfers of 13 senior officials including Chief Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents.
