MP CM orders weekly review of women's security

With the Madhya Pradesh government drawing flak on the issue of women's safety in the wake of Bhopal gangrape incident, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed that a high-level committee should take a weekly review of crimes against women and their security.
He also ordered several sweeping changes in security to ensure women's safety, including installing GPS and cameras in public transport vehicles, increased patrolling at sensitive places.
Chouhan held a meeting with the top officials of the state late last evening, where he gave the directions.
"The chief minister directed the officials that a high-level committee should review crimes against women every Monday," a public relations department officer said.

"He also directed the officers to arrange for safe transport for women, besides installing the GPS and camera in public transport vehicles," he said.
The chief minister asked the officials that effective use of Dial-100 services should be made, in addition to increased patrolling at sensitive points, where women move around more frequently.

"Chouhan told the authorities to create a secure environment in the state so that women can move about freely anywhere and anytime. According to the CM distorted mentality towards women is a social evil and society, government as well as police should make combined efforts towards this evil," he said.

According to the official, Chouhan also asked them to run public awareness campaigns to put an end to the crimes against women.
"He also asked the officials to collect information about the liquor shops near girls' schools, hostels, religious sites and places so that the process to close them down could be started as per rules," he said.
The woman was allegedly raped by four men for almost three hours near the railway tracks in Bhopal when she was returning home after attending a coaching class on October 31 night.
Last week, the state police had suspended five policemen for their alleged negligence which led to delay in registering the offence. Two senior police officers-- the Inspector General of Police, Bhopal range, and SP concerned of the Government Railway Police, were transferred.

Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have been targeting the BJP government in the state ever since the incident of gangrape.
After meeting the victim on Monday, AAP leader and Delhi minister Gopal Rai had sought the resignation of Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh and demanded a criminal case to be lodged against the police officials, for their alleged negligence.
