Anganwadis or childcare centres in Madhya Pradesh would soon undergo a transformation with the state government on Tuesday announcing its plan to offer education on the lines of private nursery schools.

Women and Child Development Minister Imarati Devi also said a policy was being prepared wherein mid-day meals will be prepared at anganwadis.

"In the first phase, a nursery school will be opened at each anganwadi across 313 administrative blocks across the state from August 28. Children coming to these anganwadis would be imparted education on the lines of private nursery schools," the minister told reporters in Gwalior.

She said all the 97,000 anganwadis would be covered under this scheme.

"At present, mid-day meals served in schools are distributed among children in the anganwadis. Arrangements will be made soon to cook food in the anganwadis itself," informed Devi.

Meanwhile, Women and Child Development Department Joint Director, Suresh Tomar, told reporters the scheme is being launched at those anganwadi centres based in the buildings owned by the department.

"Children would be imparted education based on 'learning by playing' method in a bid to strengthen their foundation by the time they get admission in regular schools," he added.
