Terming the matter as serious, Satyavrat Chaturvedi, who is also the chief whip of the Congress in Rajya Sabha, said that the proceedings of the committee are secret and demanded that the chairman inquires into who is responsible for the verbatim reporting" of the proceedings of the panel in the media.
"The Chairman should inquire into how confidentiality of the proceedings of a Parliamentary Committee has been breached. How verbatim reporting of the proceedings has been done in various newspapers. This is a serious issue and it must be inquired into to find out who is responsible for it," Chaturvedi told PTI.
Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar yesterday informed the Committee that the army had carried out "target specific, limited-calibre, counter-terrorist operations" across the LoC in the past too but this is for the first time the government has gone public about it.
The Foreign Secretary told the panel when he was specifically asked by MPs whether surgical strikes have been done in the past.
His remarks appear to contradict Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's claims earlier that it is the first time such surgical strikes across LoC have taken place.
