Being touted as India's biggest theatre production, the makers are gearing up to showcase the play in Delhi, after four sold out seasons in Mumbai.
Khan was present at the press conference of the musical, along with Deepesh Salgia, representing producers Shapoorji Pallonji Group, fashion designer Manish Malhotra, choreographer Mayuri Upadhya and Farrahnaz Irani (NCPA) here.
The cast comprises the same team that has received rave reviews in Mumbai. The show will also include the actors doing live singing of evergreen songs from the KA Asif's magnum opus, "Mughal-e-Azam" and stunning choreography by trained Kathak dancers.
He said, "I wanted to do something that was totally against my grain. I wanted to share this great piece of cinema as a huge theatre experience. For audiences in Delhi, we are setting it up on an even bigger scale than Mumbai."
While Saglia said the journey of the musical would be "incomplete" without taking the story to the place of its origin.
"Mughal-e-Azam's journey would be incomplete without Delhi being a part of it. It would have been unfair if the world had experienced Mughal-e-Azam without the heart of Mughal Sultanate experiencing it," he added.
"The costumes reflect the traditions and 'tehzeeb' (etiquette) of the Delhi Sultanate. The fabrics, textures and the embroidery showcase the grandeur of the Mughal era and I have tried to stay true to the times."
The musical will run through September 17 at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.
