Mumbai Congress holds protest over rising unemployment
Press Trust of India Mumbai City Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam along with party workers today staged a protest outside Mantralaya before being detained by police.
The protest, called "Pradhan Mantri Naukri Do", was organised against what the party claimed was rising unemployment in the country.
However the protesters, who planned to march to Mantralaya, were detained and brought to Azad Maidan police station, said officials.
Nirupam said, "The Modi government is killing jobs and India is becoming a country of jobless youth. While our country is adding 550 unemployed youth every day, our PM asks our youth to go and sell 'pakodas'."
He claimed that the rate of unemployment would soon touch 65 per cent, adding that the Modi government was stifling dissent by not allowing them to protest.
