A special CBI court today rejected an application seeking the presence of CBI director Ranjit Sinha in the court to make a statement in the Adarsh society case.
Social activist Pravin Wategoankar has demanded that the investigative agency should register an FIR against former Maharashtra Chief Minister Shivajirao Patil-Nilangekar in the case.
Wategoankar argued that according to media reports, many accused named in various scams had met the CBI director at his official residence, and hence Sinha should come before the court and state that Nilangekar, another former Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde or their representatives had never met him to protract and delay the proceedings in Adarsh case.
Wategoankar has filed a petition in the court stating that during Nilangekar's tenure as revenue minister he allegedly granted certain illegal approvals to the society, so he should be made an accused.
In its charge sheet filed in July 2012, CBI had accused former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and 12 others of criminal conspiracy, cheating and criminal misconduct under Indian Penal Code and also under Prevention of Corruption Act. The court is, however, yet to take cognisance of the charge sheet.
