Muzaffarnagar riots: 6 given life term for killing constable

Two women were among six members of a family sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here for attacking a police team and killing a constable in an attempt to free an riot accused.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Mayank Chouhan held the six guilty of attacking a police team and killing a police constable to free a family member Manoj, who is among the convicts, from their custody, assistant district government counsel Sitaram Arya said.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 66,000 on each of the convicts and directed that half of the amount of the fine must be paid to the family of the deceased constable.

The convicts were identified as Manoj, his father Baljit, his brother Naresh, his mother Mukhi, his sister-in-law Firango and one relative Subhash.
Police constable Brahm Singh was killed in the attack at Bhandure village in the district on May 5, 2006.
