: Top-seed Sumit Nagal ended the winning run of qualifier Arjun Khade 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to set up a final clash with Dutch third-seed Colin van Beem in the MCC - S R Subramaniam Memorial ITF Futures tennis chamionship 2017 here today.
Van Beem fought back from a set down to beat fifth-seeded Haadin Bava of India 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in the other semifinal.
In his semifinal, Nagal began confidently and jumped to a 4-1 lead as Khade failed to get going. In the seventh game, the No.1 seed was serving at 40-love when Khade went for broke and played two attacking points to make it deuce. However, his rival tightened his game and fought back to hold and took the set.
Khade bounced back from the setback and grew in confidence with some smart play and broke Nagal's serve in the ninth game. He capitalised on the top-seed's lax play to win the second set.
Nagal, a former Wimbledon junior doubles champion, raised his level of play and hit some superb winners to seize a 3-0 lead. Khade fought back to break his opponent's serve and reduced the deficit to 2-3.
The top-seed was playing confidently and attacking from the net also. He shut out Khade by winning the next three games to secure a place in tomorrow's final.
In the other semifinal, van Beem started slowly but didn't allow the Indian to run away with things. The two players held serve till Bava broke in the 12th to capture the first set.
In the second set, van Beem settled down and played percentage tennis to get the better of the India lad. The second set loss seemed to have rattled Bava to the extent that he was broken twice and the Dutchman took a 4-0 lead and went on to win the set 6-2 to reach the final.
In the doubles final, the Korean pair of Tae Woo Lee and Ju Hae Moon proved to too good for the brothers P C Vignesh and Anirudh Chandrasekar, winning 6-3, 6-4 to lift the title.
