A police sub-inspector, accused of demanding bribe of Rs 4,000, today attempted suicide at his residential quarters here upon realising that Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths have laid a trap to nab him.
Manish Gawande (30), attached to Panchpaoli police station, tried to kill himself with his service revolver but his attempt was foiled by the sleuths who overpowered him, the ACB stated in a release.
Earlier, an eatery shop owner had lodged a complaint accusing Gawande, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ulhas Pawar (51) and constable Praveen Jambhulkar of demanding Rs 4,000 in exchange of an official favour, it stated.
ACB has booked the trio under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 although no arrest has been made so far, the release stated, adding a separate case of attempting suicide was registered against Gawande at Panchpaoli police station.
In a separate case, a police head constable from Wardha, Mahendra Kamble was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a complainant for not implicating him in a liquor seizure case, the release added.
