Peeved and irked at the "indifferent attitude of the railway authorities" to the persistent demand of the Barak Valley people, the Karimganj Nagrik Manch has served an ultimatum to the Railway Board chairman to take a positive decision on the matter.
In a memorandum faxed to the Chairman, the Manch threatened to launch a mass agitation if he failed to take action on their demand.
Pointing out that at a time when the country was poised for better railway services and modernisation, the scenario in Barak Valley in southern Assam presented a contradictory picture, the memorandum asserted.
Instead of improving and augmenting the train services despite the ever increasing volume of passengers, the Railway Ministry has only preferred to ignore the interest of the commuting public of the landlocked area, alleged the memorandum signed by prominent citizens.
The memo said demand for more trains on the busy inter-valley route had been raised since the tenure of Mamata Banerjee, currently West Bengal Chief Minister.
