Naveen hails AIIMS doctors for separating conjoined twins

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today hailed the team of doctors at AIIMS, New Delhi, who separated two-year-old twins joined at the head during a marathon surgery and said assistance would not be a constraint in the children's treatment.
The twins from Odisha were successfully separated after a 16-hours surgery performed by a team of around 30 specialists from different departments.
"Extraordinary work by Dr AK Mohapatra & team. There will be no constraint in assistance for the twins for whom Odisha is praying," Patnaik said in a Twitter post.
The state government has sanctioned Rs one crore from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) for the treatment of the 28-months-old twins.

The chief minister had earlier prayed for a speedy recovery of the conjoined twins--Jaga and Kalia--from Malipada village of Kandhamal district.
"Glad to learn of successful separation of Jaga Kalia at #AIIMS. Congrats to the doctors' team. Pray to Lord Jagannath for speedy recovery," Patnaik tweeted.

Odisha's Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena also said money would not be a constraint in their treatment and further assistance would be provided, if necessary.
Jena said the twins were kept under observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after the surgery concluded in the early hours today.
Describing the marathon exercise to separate the twins as a critical surgery, Jena prayed for their quick recovery.

BJD leader and MP Baijayant Panda also wished for the safe recuperation of twins. Panda, on Twitter, said the children had captivated millions of hearts.
The twins are stated to be critical after the surgery and would be kept under observation at least for 72 hours, he said, adding that both were being monitored by a team of experts constantly.
The first phase of the surgery was performed on August 28 when the doctors created a venous bypass to separate the veins shared by the babies that return blood to the heart from the brain.
The twins were admitted to the AIIMS on July 13.
