Nationalist Congress Party today said it is disappointed with Congress state president Manikrao Thakre's remarks about its performance in the recent Nandurbar Zilla Parishad elections.
In the elections held for Nandurbar Zilla Parishad, which was earlier under NCP control, Congress won 29 of the 55 seats.
"If Thakre is happy that we fared badly, it is like 'Shekhchilli' (a Don Quixote-like Indian folk tale character, prone to self-defeating folly) cutting off the branch on which he himself was perched," NCP state spokesperson Nawab Malik said here.
"Our fight is not against the Congress, but against Shiv Sena-BJP alliance," he told reporters at the state NCP office.
"We are happy that the strength of secular parties there has increased," Malik said.
To a query on the discordant note in statements by the ruling alliance partners over seat adjustment for Lok Sabha elections, Malik said, "I expect that a meeting of the Congress-NCP Coordination Committee will be held after the winter session of the legislature".
On the arrest of Maharashtra Minister Narayan Rane's son Nitesh for allegedly vandalising a toll booth on the Goa-Maharashtra border yesterday, the NCP leader said, "We feel law should take its course, be it in the case of the common man or a leader.
"However, we strongly object to the alleged vandalism and destruction of property by members of the Nitesh Rane-led Swabhimani Sanghatana. We demand that the state government should recover the amount for the damage from the Sanghatana," he said.
