The NCP today supported the demand of the Maratha community for quota in jobs and education and sought its acceptance, saying justice should be done to them.
The demand was raised by NCP member Supriya Sule in the Lok Sabha on a day when several Maratha organisations called for 'bandh' (general strike) in Maharashtra, but called it off later in the day.
Speaking on the strike during the Zero Hour, Sule said the Centre and the Maharashtra government should talk to the agitators as the ir protests have led to deterioration of law and order in the state.
The Maratha community, she said, had earlier also carried on an agitation but they were peaceful. BJP, in its election manifesto, had promised to give reservation to to the community, she added.
She pleaded that both the Centre and the state government should hold discussions to ensure that the demands of the protestors are fulfilled and justice is given to them.
