National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has issued a notice to the district Collector and the SP here and sought reply over the alleged incident of firing at a tribal man by CRPF jawans.
Acting on the petition of the 23-year-old man Birsu Atram, the notice was issued on December 22, 2015 and sought reply from the collector and the SP within a month's time.
The notice, sent by the Commission's Research Officer Deepika Khanna, said it will conduct an inquiry into the allegation levelled by Birsu and it may also issue summons to the two officers to be present before it if replies are not received within the stipulated period.
The man, a native of Gatepalli village in Etapalli taluka, had alleged that he received injuries on his thumb and wrist in the firing by a CRPF jawan while he was returning to his village from Allapalli on the evening of September 20, 2015.
He was given preliminary treatment at primary health centre in Perimili and was then taken to CRPF camp there by the jawans who released him the next day after giving him a sum of Rs 10,000.
They warned the man to not to disclose the matter to anyone.
Birsu, however, lodged a complaint with the Collector and sent one to the commission demanding action against the CRPF jawans.
The man told reporters yesterday that he will stage a day-long dharna in front of the Collectorate here on February 1 along with his family and locals of Gatepalli village in protest of failure of district administration to take action against the jawans.
Bisru claimed that he showed the money, given by the CRPF jawans, to the collector.
"The collector has promised me to conduct an inquiry into the incident but no any action has been taken yet," he said.
Meanwhile, Gadchiroli collector Ranjeet Kumar told PTI, "We have yet not received the notice. Whenever we receive it, we will furnish the reply. I have asked for an explanation from the Police department on the complaint of the man.
