NCST seeks report from Raigarh DM on illegal land transfers

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has sought details on the action taken report in illegal land transfer cases in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh.
The NCST has asked the district magistrate of Raigarh to file a report on the action taken against officers and employees accused in such cases.
The instruction was given during a meeting held by the NCST chairman Nand Kumar Sai.
The Commission has also recommended that the land plots which have been taken illegally be returned to the original owners. It has sought speedy disposal of cases.
It also asked for the details of the payment made to the original land owners in such cases wherein land transfer was done after the permission of the district magistrate.
The panel has also directed cancellation of such nominations in cases where the DM's permission was not taken.
In a separate case, it directed the district SSP to enquire into the circumstances that lead to the death of a tribal man, Jailal Rathiya.
Raithiya, who had brought to light the 300-acre land dispute in the Kunkuni village of Raigarh died on March 17 under mysterious circumstances.
It was alleged that his body was cremated without carrying out postmortem.
The Commission directed officers to take action under SC and ST (Eradication of Atrocities) Act in cases wherein the lands of people belongign to the ST community were fraudulently transferred in the name of persons of other community.
