Alleging corruption in sanitation and pension departments in Narela Zone of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, a member of the Standing Committee of the civic body resigned the post today.
Chattar Singh Rachoiya, ward councillor from Nangloi (West) also resigned from the post of Deputy Chairman of the Narela Zone of NDMC, claiming "no action was being taken by the high authorities despite several issues of corruption and irregularity being raised by him repeatedly".
"There is corruption in sanitation department in our area and attendance of workers are being marked with evaporable ink. There are also issues with regard to pensions, where various people who are young are availing pensions using forged documents," he alleged.
Standing Committee is the highest decision-making body of the NDMC.
"I had raised the issue in the Standing Committee too, it's there in the minutes. But, after repeatedly raising it, we got no response, so I am resigning. It is also a symbolic protest," he said.
Rachoiya has sent his letter of resignation to North Delhi Mayor Sanjeev Nayyar, and when asked if his resignation has been accepted, he said, "there has been no response from their side but I won't take it back."
There is "corruption" in construction of buildings as builders interfere and so, "I had sought action," he said.
