Nearly 11,000 guards trained for safety of schools in Peshawar

Police in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has trained nearly 11,000 security guards this year for the protection of educational institutes in the aftermath of the 2014 Taliban attack on a school here.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police department has so for trained 10,727 security guards for educational institutions in the first quarter of the current year across the province while 10,610 guards are awaiting training, said a police spokesman today.
Post the horrid school attack, the security arrangements of educational institutions across the province were reviewed at the police department meeting and a need was felt for strengthening them to avoid lingering threats.
Hazara Region took the lead by training 3,973 guards followed by Bannu Region with the figure of 2,192 guards and Mardan Region with 1,938 guards.
Malakand region police has trained 1,306 guards, Kohat 709, DI Khan 516 guards and Peshawar 93.
The personnel trained included teachers, security guards, chowkidars as well as retired personnels of different security forces.
The IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nasir Khan Durrani has reiterated his pledge that every possible measures would be taken to ensure the much needed security of the citizen.
After the attack, the police department had held security awareness workshop for public and private educational institutions of the province and operational guide lines for security arrangements were issued for implementation.
Also, 'One click' SOS alert service was also launched last year by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police for enhancing the security of educational institutions throughout the province and live demonstration about the system was also given to the participants on the occasion.
