With the aggressive campaign of Narendra Modi paying rich electoral dividends, Congress today said there was a need to introspect whether its policy of giving message "with love and not rancor" should undergo change.
Accusations of corruption and non-performance which were listed as the "weakness of the party were not true but we were not able to successfully counter them", an editorial in the party mouthpiece Congress Sandesh said.
Hinting that the Modi-led BJP campaign was about "loud angry speeches and chest thumping" which is not the style of Congress, it said the party likes to give its message with love and not rancour.
"Lound angry speeches and chest-thumping are not the style of Congress. However, amongst other things Congress while introspecting will have to consider whether a policy of such a nature is correct in today's 24x7 media outreach," the monthly journal said in its latest issue.
Terming the results, which reduced Congress to its lowest ever tally of 44 seats, as a "major disappointment", it said they are not the true reflection of the work done, programmes and achievement made by the party over the last 10 years.
"In a democracy it is the verdict of people that counts which the party accepts with humility. Evidently the achievements of Congress were lost in the din created by the BJP propaganda which was solidly reflected in the media," it said.
