A delegation of Tamil Nadu ministers today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other union ministers to step in to exempt the state from the purview of NEET examination.
The delegation, headed by Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai, urged them to intervene in getting the President's nod for two bills passed in Tamil Nadu assembly which facilitates the exemption.
"NEET examination has pushed students from the state to a disadvantageous position. It is an injustice for aspirants from Tamil Nadu who belong to weaker sections," Thambidurai said.
The delegation also underscored the need for such exemption based on proportion of CBSE and state board students in the state.
"Around 4,000 from CBSE have better chances of getting seats, whereas around five lakh students of state board are disadvantaged," he claimed.
Since the admissions have not begun yet, we have asked the PM to make selection based on marks in plus two exams and not on NEET scores, he said.
All parties of Tamil Nadu had yesterday joined hands in the Rajya Sabha to demand complete exemption of the state's students from the combined medical entrance test NEET.
Dravida Munnetra Kazagham (DMK) has decided to hold a protest across Tamil Nadu on 27 July seeking Presidential assent for exemption.
