"Our party, CPN-UML is committed to promulgate the new Constitution by January 22 next year," KP Oli said addressing a function organised by Workers Union of Kathmandu Metropolitan Corporation here.
The new Constitution will be fully democratic, guaranteeing individual freedom, human rights and it would also ensure the rights of the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-lingual people of Nepal, said Oli, top leader of CPN-UML, part of the ruling coalition led by Nepali Congress.
The government will try to forge consensus, cooperation and collaboration with all political parties in the country while drafting the Constitution by sorting out all the differences through dialogue and negotiations, he said.
Oli further underlined that Constitution would be announced through a two-third majority in the 601-membered Constituent Assembly if anyone attempts to obstruct the drafting process.
Citing international practice which requires two-third majority to draft the Constitution, he said, "Do not take our wish to forge consensus on contentious issues of the Constitution as weakness."
We want to end inequality and the feudal system prevalent in our society through the new Constitution, he said.
