The total revamp of air navigational services equipment would cost around Rs 18 crore and would be completed by end of March next year, MIA director J T Radhakrishna was quoted as saying in a release here today.
The airport is in the process of replacing its three pieces of main navigational equipment. These are very high-frequency omni directional radio range equipment, mono-pulse secondary surveillance radar and Instrument Landing System (ILS).
The Rs 4 crore very high-frequency omni directional radio range equipment for providing navigational services to flights crossing over Mangaluru airport, is being shifted to the premises which will replace the old one, the release said.
The ILS, which helps flights in landing, on the airport would be replaced with a new one at an approximate cost of Rs 60 lakh by January next year, it said.
