Newborn girl found abandoned; mother held

A newborn girl was found abandoned by her parents at a farm near Khadiahar village in the district, police said today.
Police later rescued the girl and her mother, identified as Sunita Kushwaha, was arrested today.
"The couple had abandoned the baby girl yesterday under a tree in the field. After some time, a passerby named Rajkumar Tomar heard her cries and informed the police," Sihonia Police Station in-charge, O P Chandoria said.
The infant was immediately admitted to the Primary Health Centre, he said.
Police checked the hospital records, and based on suspicion, girl's mother was arrested as no newborn was found at her residence.

Sunita confessed to her crime during interrogation, Chandoria said, adding, she said since they have three daughters and one son, they were expecting one more male child. Therefore, when the girl was born, they abandoned her.
