A newly elected village head was shot dead allegedly by the son of the candidate who lost to him in Kheri Taloda village in this district today.
Accused Vijay allegedly opened fire at 45-year-old Rakesh in the village, killing him, Jind Senior Superintendent of Police Abishek Jorwal said.
"We have rounded up his father Satbir Singh who lost the polls, but Vijay is absconding," he said.
The SP said that Rakesh was elected sarpanch of the village in the January 10 panchayat polls.
"It was a close fight and the candidate who lost out had ill feelings against the winner," he said.
Police have registered a case of murder against Vijay.
