"Odisha is ahead of many other states in implementation of the recommendations of NHRC," NHRC's Secretary General Satyanarayan Mohanty said after holding a discussion with the state government officials.
Stating that Odisha has taken expeditious steps in addressing the issues raised in various cases lodged at NHRC, Mohanty said the number of pending cases at the rights panel has been reduced to a large extent.
The issues relating to strengthening human rights cell in Home Department, implementation of NHRC guidelines and recommendations in case of custodial deaths, rehabilitation of child labour and the women victimized by illegal trafficking, rehabilitation of bonded labour, establishments of women police stations, fast tracking of the cases were among the issued discussed and resolved in the meeting presided over by chief secretary G C Pati.
They were district child protection units, integrated anti human trafficking units, women & child desk in police stations, setting up of dedicated Police Station for women, child line system, helpline, SHGs.
Swadhara Griha, short stay homes, legal aid committees, mental health care institutions, state level coordination meeting for anti-trafficking and child labor prevention, juvenile home, jail reforms, child homes were also present.
