NHRC seeks report on delay in pension payment to retd DTC emp

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to Delhi government over delay in payment of pension to 12,000 retired employees of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
The Commission took suo-motu cognisance of a media report that about 12,000 retired employees of the DTC have not been paid pension for the last two months.
Despite having approached the concerned authorities, they have not been getting any satisfactory answers, said the Commission in a statement.
"The contents of the report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the retired employees DTC," NHRC observed.
Notices have been served to the Secretary of Transport Department and Chairman of DTC and report has been sought in two weeks time.

According to the media report, the DTC was earlier under the control of Central Government but later, it was brought under the Delhi Government.

At that time, an agreement was reached between the two that pension of retired employees will be paid by the DTC without any contribution from the Centre.
Accordingly, all the employees who had retired with effect from August 3, 1981 onwards were to be paid pension by the DTC under Delhi Government.
The DTC had created a pension trust in August 1996 and with effect from February, 1993, the pension was being paid through that trust.

Problem started when payment of pension for February 2015 was made after three months. But again their pension for the months of May and June 2015 has not been paid.
