Under one of the most ambitious programmes of the Government of India, the National Innovation Council (NIC) via the National Knowledge Commission held its first public lecture series today. Close to 3,00,000 students from 500 universities and colleges were connected via the National Knowledge Network (NKN) live.
The first lecture was held by Sam Pitroda, adviser to the Prime Minister of India and Professor Michael Sandel on ‘Democratising Information, justice, equality and the rule of law’. The lecture is being held at the Delhi University.
These public lectures are the part of the grand showcase of the much-awaited National Knowledge Network created by the government to connect all educational institutions.
Pitroda in his tweet said, “This is the first time that 3,00,000 students are connecting with us live Via the National Knowledge Network.”
During the session, students were encouraged to ask question vis Pitroda’s Twitter handle @pitrodasam.
The NKN is a multi-gigabit pan India network, built by the Government of India, to connect all education and research institutions in the country and is being implemented by the National Informatics Centre. Currently, NKN has connected over 900 nodes in the country with a dedicated bandwidth of 1Gbps/ 100mbps.
