Nifty hits new closing peak, up 27 pts

The NSE 50-share Nifty extended its gains by 27.30 points to finish at a new record closing high of 9,265.15 ahead of the Reserve Bank's monetary policy review tomorrow.
Overall positive sentiments supported the market as investors remained optimistic while awaiting policy review outcome.
The NSE 50-share Nifty opened higher at 9,264.40 and moved in a range of 9,273.90 and 9,215.40 before closing at 9,265.15, a new record closing, showing a gain of 27.30 points or 0.30 per cent.
Counterwise, Nifty realty surged by 3.10 per cent, followed by media by 2.16 per cent, infra 1.53 per cent, PSU bank 1.43 per cent, energy 1.35 per cent and metal 1.02 per cent.
While the broader smallcap gained by 1.29 per cent and midcap rose 0.77 per cent, respectively.
A total of 1,215 shares ended with gains while 494 finished with losses while 56 ruled steady.
Major Nifty gainers were Adani Port 4.69 pct, Maruti 4.45 pct, Reliance 2.94 pct, Zeel 2.83 pct and Infratl 2.47 pct.
However, HDFC fell by 2.84 pct, HCL tech 1.82 pct, Coal India 1.68 pct, TechM 1.36 pct and Infy 1.27 pct.
Turnover in the cash segment jumped to Rs 30,287.83 crore to Rs 22,072.93 crore on Monday.
A total of 15,241.41 lakh shares changed hands in 11,669,771 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms stood at Rs 12,143,619 crore.
