Khan said Nigam should refrain from making such "baseless" statements, which he made just for the sake of "publicity".
"Such a statement on the social media is insensitive, premeditated and just meant to seek publicity. Nigam looks desperate to get entry into the BJP and this is why he has said so to polarise the sentiments," Khan, the vice president of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), said.
Describing Nigam as the "lover of night life", Khan said, "He should check the Bombay High Court ruling, in which it has given permission to use loudspeakers between 6 am to 10 pm."
Nigam, in a series of tweets, has described as hooliganism the use of loudspeakers to broadcast sermons and calls to prayers by mosques, temples and gurudwaras.
The 43-year-old singer said he didn't believe that shrines should wake people up with the use of loudspeakers and demanded an end to "forced religiousness".
