"His (Modi's) action (to deal with ceasefire violation by Pakistan) belies his rhetorics on the issue when he was not in power at the Centre," Kumar told reporters on the sidelines of a function on the occasion of the former president V V Giri's 120th birth centenary here.
He (Modi) used to say that the border issue with Pakistan will be dealt with sternly and vast swathe of land captured by China will be taken back, Kumar said and reminded the prime minister of border issue with the two neighbouring countries even after the NDA has come into power under Modi's leadership.
Even in Pakistan's case, our retaliatory action has not been "proportionate" to shelling into our territory from across the border and whatever steps have been taken appeared to be "belated in nature", Kumar rued and claimed that frequency of ceasefire violations witnessed in past four-five months were never seen earlier.
Kumar also expressed solidarity with the people living in villages near the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir and said some people have been killed and many others sustained injuries in shelling by the Pakistani troops even as large number of people have fled their villages and taken shelter at safer places in the wake of sustained shelling.
Kumar said that the entire country was standing together against ceasefire violations by Pakistan and wanted a strong and befitting reply to shelling by the Pakistani Rangers in our territory.
