North Korea has asked the UN Human Rights Council to discuss and launch a probe into the allegations of torture of terror suspects by CIA that were contained in a US Senate report.
So Se Pyong, North Korea's ambassador to the UN in Geneva, yesterday said he has written a letter to UNHRC President Joachim Rucker calling for an inquiry into CIA's interrogation techniques detailed in the US Senate report last month and a discussion on the issue at the upcoming session of the UN's rights body in March.
Pyong said, "UNHRC should establish an independent commission of inquiry mandated to make thorough investigation of CIA torture crimes and hold those responsible to account."
The diplomat added that the information contained in the report was just the tip of the iceberg and the human rights violations in the CIA's detention centres were "surreal".
