Following the confusion over the issue, the party has called off the protest to gherao the state assembly on the first day of monsoon session set to start from August 27.

The BJP has also announced to hold a massive rally on the last day of the session on August 30.

Meanwhile, HPCC president Kaul Singh Thakur claimed that he continued to be president and had not resigned.

The AICC general secretary and in-charge of Himachal Pradesh Chowdhary Barinder Singh also said that Thakur had not resigned.

The Congress MLAs would return tomorrow or Monday morning and the CLP would chalk out its strategy for the session, party sources said.

Former Union minister Virbhadra Singh, Thakur and leader of opposition in state Assembly Vidya Stokes are currently in Delhi.
