Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy today ruled out presence of naxals in the youngest state of the country.
"There is no Maoist activity (in Telangana)...We have a peaceful atmosphere here," Reddy told reporters after reviewing the Passing Out parade of the 12th batch of Sub-Inspectors/Executive of CISF at National Industrial Security Academy (NISA), Hakimpet, here.
When asked if any specific alerts were issued by Union government on possibility of any naxal attack in the state against the backdrop of Maoists killing 14 CRPF personnel in neighbouring Chhattisgarh on Monday, the minister said, "On regular basis, alerts keep coming from Centre on terror-related and not about naxals (sic)".
"We are already implementing the demands raised by Maoists by distributing lands to landless, increasing the pension for senior citizens and physically-challenged and rejuvenating water bodies and creating road infrastructure," the minister said.
"Earlier, apprehensions were raised about security of Andhraities settling in Hyderabad after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh; there is no such thing (incident). Not a single (such) incident took place during the last six months since formation of Telangana state," he said.
In his address after reviewing the parade, Reddy called upon the officers to prepare themselves to effectively meet the emerging challenges posed by new forms of terrorism and insurgency.
He also stressed upon the growing role of Central Industrial Security Force in the changing security scenario, particularly in key areas like VIP security, Disaster Management, Government Building and Aviation security.
NISA Director Anil Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
A total of 116 SIs/Executive passed out of the Academy after successfully completing their basic training.
