Mukherjee, who had earlier said Geetashri followed a non-violent way to raise her protest by refusing to accept the medal from the JU Chancellor, today, however, remained non-commital when reporters again asked for his views on the issue and merely stated, "sarkarer kono chap nei (no pressure on the government in the matter)."
He did not say anything else or elaborate what he meant by saying there was no pressure on the government.
Geetashri's refusal to accept her citation in presence of JU VC Avijit Chakroborty had earlier been criticised by Mukherjee's cabinet colleague Urban Development minister Firhad Hakim while TMC MP Sugato Bose had apparently come to the girl's side stating she had not hurt or insulted anybody.
