EIH Ltd, part of the Oberoi Group, has no specific plan to re-open its Darjeeling hotel closed over 25 years ago and would take a decision in this regard only after business conditions improved.
"There is no specific plan and it would depend on business conditions," EIH vice-chairman and CEO SS Mukherji told reporters on the sidelines of the company's AGM today.
EIH Ltd runs hotels and resorts under Oberoi and Trident brands.
Asked about not re-developing its property for so long, Mukherji said Oberoi group operates in the luxury segment.
He indicated that without much growth happening in West Bengal and political turbulence in the hills, the hotel major is keeping its fingers crossed.
It had attempted to re-open the Darjeeling hotel in the past.
"We had the intention to reopen, but we could not do so due to water related issues," Mukherji said.
The company is, however, not planning to hive off the land and might consider reviving the project in future.
"We do not have a plan to sell the land," Mukherji said.
Oberoi Mount Everest Hotel in Darjeeling, spread across five acres area, was closed in the late seventies.
The group would have to reconstruct the entire structure if it wanted to reuse it, Mukherji had said in the past.
