Nomination papers of 156 candidates, including those of Congress, BJP and AAP, for the April 10 Lok Sabha polls for seven constituencies, were found in order after scrutiny today while those of 51 rejected.
"The rejections were due to faults in their applications. The last date for nomination withdrawal of nominations is March 26," said a Delhi Election Commission official.
Prominent leaders Kapil Sibal (Cong), Harsh Vardhan (BJP), Rajmohan Gandhi (AAP), Ajay Maken (Cong), Meenakshi Lekhi (BJP) and Sandeep Dikshit (Cong) among others are in the fray for the seven constituencies here.
Bhojpuri actor-singer Manoj Tiwari and actor Biswajit Chatterjee are also contesting elections on BJP and TMC tickets respectively.
While Tiwari is contesting from North East constituency, Chatterjee has been fielded from New Delhi.
According to EC officials, a maximum number of 29 candidates are contesting from New Delhi constituency, while a minimum of 15 are from North West Delhi.
Congress, which had won all the seven seats in 2009 Lok Sabha elections, has re-nominated all the sitting MPs.
In 2009 Lok Sabha polls, 221 candidates had filed nominations while 160 had contested the election.
Out of seven constituencies in Delhi, six are general seats and one is reserved for Scheduled Caste. The constituencies are Chandni Chowk, North East Delhi, East Delhi, New Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and North West Delhi (reserved).
