Former Bihar Congress chief Ashok Choudhary, who recently joined the ruling JD(U), today said it would be unfortunate for the Congress if it decides to field ex-Union minister Akhilesh Prasad Singh as its Rajya Sabha candidate from Bihar.
Speculation has been in rife that Singh could be the Congress candidate from the state in the coming Rajya Sabha election.
"It will be unfortunate if the Congress decides to field former union minister Akhilesh Prasad Singh as its Rajya Sabha candidate from Bihar," Choudhary said.
No one in Bihar Congress would accept Akhilesh Singh as Rajya Sabha candidate,
Singh had been made a Union minister in UPA I from RJD quota. He later joined the Congress.
Choudhary said if Singh was made a Congress candidate, it would send a message that the party has become the "B" team of the RJD.
Asked whether any further split is possible in Bihar Congress before the March 23 Rajya Sabha elections, he told reporters to wait for the last day for filing of nomination papers for Rajya Sabha election, which is tomorrow.
Choudhary and three other Congress MLCs had on March 1 snapped their ties with the Congress and joined the ruling JD(U) in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
