Nottingham to help Chandigarh develop as smart city

Nottingham City council will help in transforming Chandigarh into a 'Smart City' for which a MoU was today signed here between the council and the Union Territory administration respectively.
The MoU was signed by Chandigarh Home Secretary Anurag Agarwal and Cabinet Member of Nottingham City Council, Nick McDonald in the presence of Adviser to the UT Administrator, Vijay Dev, an official release said here.
Nottingham City Council will share its experiences and provide support to Chandigarh in its ambition of becoming a "Smart City", it said.
Both the cities agreed to promote investment, trade, and collaboration between businesses through delegations and information exchange and also to support cultural and academic cooperations, the release said.
Meanwhile, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh and the Nottingham Trent University (NTU), United Kingdom also signed a MoU with the initial focus on research collaborations.
PU Vice Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover and NTU VC Professor Edward Peck, who was leading his university's delegation, today signed the MoU, according to a Panjab University release.
British Deputy High Commissioner David Lelliott was also present on the occasion, the release said.
The MoU has been signed following number of visits and discussions from each side to the other partner University.
As per the MoU, the initial focus and discussion of the two universities would be for mutual research collaborations, exchange visits by faculty and students, organising conferences, workshops together and development of a joint academic and research programme, it said.
The NTU School of Art & Design & PU University Institute of Fashion Technology (UIFT) and Centre for Conflict, Rights and Justice, Nottingham Law School & Centre for Human Rights and Duties would collaborate as per the agreement, the release said.
