Singers Papon, Udit Narayan and Nitin Mukesh took to the stage in the third edition of the Stagecraft Awards here to honour the unsung heroes who work behind the scenes in the field of performing arts.
"No singer can move a step without the help of sound engineer. By recognising these people Usha Uthup and Kolkata have done a great service to the cause. We have all come together to celebrate the contributions of the men behind the show," Mukesh said.
"There are certain people who inspire us. And we are so lucky to have Usha Uthup among these people," he added.
Singer Udit Narayan, who broke into one of his most popular hits 'Papa Kehte Hain', also described the initiative as one with good intentions.
'Moh Moh Ke Dhaage' singer Papon recalled his father's fascination for Salil Chowdhury, Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Manna Dey and how their music shaped his mind at the early stage.
He said, "We are incomplete without those who fix the sound system and stage and take care of every single techical side."
Uthup, the Chairperson of Stagecraft, said, "This is an initiative to acknowledge the unsung heroes from the world of entertainment."
"Begum Jaan" director Srijit Mukherjee said, who was present with the important cast members of his upcoming Shakespearean work 'Zulfiqar', said the film industry came to support the cause for those people whose work is never highlighted in media or anywhere.
Awards for 'Best Event Manager', 'Best Decorator', 'Best Event Set Designers' and 'Executor', 'Best Sound and Light Company', 'Best Choreographer', 'Best Sound Engineer (stage) and 'Best Recording Engineer Studio' (non film/film), 'Best Stage - Props', 'Best Make-up', 'Best Costume', 'Best Light Designer' (GES), 'Best Light Designer', 'Best Theatre Production', 'Best Event Director', 'Best Audio Visual Maker', categories were given at the event.
