The issue was raised by Congress Chief Whip Taraprasad Bahinipati during Zero hour when he referred to a local news item saying that a college girl student was allegedly gangraped in a moving car between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
Alleging that no action had been taken against the rapists so far, Bahinipati demanded a statement from Patnaik, who holds the home portfolio.
Seeking a ruling from the chair, Congress MLAs rushed tothe Well of the house and drew the attention of the deputy speaker Sadan Marndi to the issue.
Unable to bring the House to order, Marndi adjourned the House till 12.45 PM.
Bahinipati told newsmen outside the House that the college girl was reportedly picked up by a private taxi in Cuttack and was allegedly raped by two persons who were sitting at the back.
However, the girl managed to escape from the car and was rescued by the people after it reached Bhubaneswar.
