Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today laid the foundation stone of the second campus of Ravenshaw University here.
The new campus, at Sector 13 of the satellite city, would come up over a sprawling 120 acres area to ease the pressure on its crowded main campus, which was set up in 1868 as a collegiate.
In presence of the University Vice-Chancellor P C Sarangi, State Higher Education minister P K Panigrahi and several cabinet ministers, the Chief Minister initiated the process for the much-needed campus of the University, which has been christened as 'Mahanadi Campus'.
Earlier in April this year, while attending the annual function of the University Students' Union function, the Chief Minister had announced a grant of Rs 30 crore for the new campus.
The university authorities, however, had placed an initial demand of Rs 300 crore for the project.
During his three-hour visit to the city on the day, the Chief Minister also laid foundation stones and dedicated to public several development and welfare schemes, including four projects of the health department.
While inaugurating the Swasthya Bhawan and a new building of Dental wing of S C B Medical College and Hospital, the Chief Minister laid foundation stones for two urban Community Health Centres in the city on the day.
Patnaik also inaugurated the building of Centre for Finishing Skills and Entrepreneurships developed by Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTET) and dedicated to public a road built by Public Works Department.
